TSWeb Combined Team Minutes, May 17, 2006

LTS Web

May 17, 2006

In attendance: Jim Alberts, Michal Jacyna, Sally Lockwood, Nate Rupp, Nancy Solla, Jim Spear

UPDATES

Nate. Our meeting scheduled for May 31 conflicts with one of the two all-staff meetings so it will be moved up one day to May 30 at the same time. If this conflicts with anyone’s long holiday weekend, please let me know.

I have been working with Karen to evaluate the "working documents" and "archived resources" sections of the CTS site and determine which documents should be moved to physical archives in Kroch Library and which should be moved to an "archive" section of LTS Web. This process includes looking at the various committees and working groups that have spaces on TS Web (i.e., TS Integration) and moving some of their content to archives as well. We’re also working through what should be done with the ENCompass project site.

I will check with Mann Web staff about the ordered/unordered list problem; Nick Cappadona, the main programmer for the site, is out on vacation through Memorial Day.

I will send the notes from the meeting about Projects and Initiatives that Jim and I had with Karen and Jim LeBlanc to Michal.

Michal. Talked with Jim about developing a "print this page" element. This will take approximately forty-five hours over the course of eight weeks and will not be able to be accomplished until the 2006/07 academic year.

Michal reminded us that it will take between three to four weeks to pull together the rotating images and "what’s new" for the front page of the web site.

Michal will let the group know when the site has been moved to the production server sometime on Thursday.

Sally. Met with Karen about Joanie Brink’s book of cataloging resources and was told that she should develop a budget for scanning the pages in the book and moving it on to the web. Karen also asked her to look at other technical services web sites to see if they had any similar collections of cataloging resources. Karen also suggested that Joanie’s book could be made part of Backstory, but the group wasn’t sure what this meant. Sally will confirm with Karen what she meant about making Joanie’s book part of Backstory.

Sally also introduced a section of LC’s web site that people can use to suggest improvements or modifications to the web site. She will send out this page’s URL to everyone for their review.

Sally will meet with Gary Branch about the vendor database section of resources and tools.

Jim A. The procedures are between fifty and sixty five percent finished. Receiving and ordering procedures are being worked on now, and database maintenance procedures are next.

Nancy. Nancy has begun thinking about the training page and hopes to bring this up at the training meeting on Wednesday, May 17.

TRAINING

Sally volunteered to be involved with training LTS staff in CommonSpot.

Jim and Nate will meet with Karen next week to determine which LTS staff should be trained.

Edit access to the site will be restricted to only those whose Kerberos accounts have been added to the site; we will determine whose Kerberos accounts should be added once we develop a list of LTS staff who should be trained to add content in CommonSpot.

STYLE

We agreed that:

1. Page titles should be centered unless centering makes them look "weird" as in the case of some the long procedure titles. [Do we need a further definition of "weird"?]

2. Page titles should be font size 3 ("normal small" in the rich text editor) and not bolded.

3. Page text should be font size 2 ("normal x-small" in the rich text editor).

NEXT MEETING [Wednesday, May 24, 8:30-9:30, Mann 361]

So far…

1. Discuss vacations for June

2. Discuss when we should sent out the URL to LTS Staff for review
