LTSWeb Team, Aug. 31, 2004

Attending: Jim Alberts, Michal Jacyna, Margaret Nichols, Nate Rupp (chair)

Tech notes

Michal and Jim are meeting weekly for continued training. Some of the projects they plan

to work on are updating the index and maintaining the mTeam portion of TS Web. Jim

may take Paul McMillan?s class on JavaScript.

What?s New

After an initial flurry of items for What?s New, traffic has slowed down enough that it

really doesn?t make sense to spend the time creating an automatic What?s New

submission form. Nate spoke with Adam Chandler who said that while a form which

people would use to submit What?s New items and send them directly to Karen would be

easy to design, a form which people would use to submit What?s New items and then

automatically display them in a chronological list on the web site would be difficult to

design. If What?s New items pick up again this semester, we will revisit this issue.

We had a brief discussion about what items were appropriate for What?s New? Should

we include only news items about TS itself, or should we also include items about

updates to TS Web as well? [Nate: Let?s decide on a case-by-case basis; i.e., if we were

to add ?(pdf)? after pdf links, we probably wouldn?t include an item in What?s New about

that, but we could include an item about the new site for TS Integration. But then again,

most new major parts of TS Web?like TS Integration?will represent activities that get

their own announcement in ?What?s New.?]

Suggestions and comments form

Michal and Jim will look into designing a form allowing people to submit suggestions

and comments.

Announcements of TS Web changes

We discussed what listservs we could use to announce changes to TS Web?TSVoyage-

L, Catalogers-L, or WGC-L. [Michal suggested CTS-L, but after a discussion at the

September Working Group on Cataloging meeting about the listservs, it seems like

TSVoyage- L has the largest audience. In addition, Karen?s already been announcing

changes to the site via CU-Lib. Will we want to announce any other changes that she?s

not already announcing on that list already?]

TS Integration

We decided to wait to post anything new about TS Integration efforts until after

Thursday?s (9/2) meetings. [Since then, we?ve posted the FAQ and Thursday?s

presentation in addition to the TS Integration team?s first monthly update.]

PDFs and other non-HTML files

Michal and Jim will mock up a page with ?(pdf)? after the pdf file links on that page so

we can see what this might look like for the entire web site. Users may find this

information useful so they don?t inadvertently click on a link to a pdf or PowerPoint,

which sometimes can be quite large.

Presentation section

Michal and Jim will go ahead and create a presentation section for TS Web. This section

could be linked from either About Us or Quick Links. [How about both?] One of them

will touch base with David Banush about how this might tie in with the TS newsletter,

?Backstory.?
