Electronic Resources Committee Minutes Attending: Nan Hyland, Bill Kara, Marty Kurth, Steve Rockey, Scott Wicks, Ed Weissman. Guest: Michael Engle. 1. Find Databases access to titles in Oxford Reference Online and Xreferplus Michael Engle, the selector for Oxford Reference Online and Xreferplus, joined ERC for a discussion of whether and how to add records for the individual titles in these two resources to Find Databases. There are 110 titles in Oxford Reference Online and 100 titles in Xreferplus. Adding these titles to the "Almanacs, Dictionaries, and Encyclopedia" category in Find Databases would dramatically increase its size, which is currently 61 titles. Because those present felt that such an increase would reduce the usability of Find Databases, they agreed to add a subset of each resource to Find Databases in ENCompass. Michael will select the titles to be added, in consultation with Scott Wicks, who will provide input regarding available processing resources from his perspective as Head of CTS Acquisitions, Bibliographic Control, and Documents. Find Databases is slated to migrate from ENCompass to the Innovative Interfaces ERMS product in the next several months. How ERMS will handle Find Databases subject categories is not fully understood. Because those present were not able to agree on a recommendation regarding the extent to which Oxford Reference Online and Xreferplus titles should be included in Find Databases in ERMS, ERC invited Michael to its next meeting to discuss the issues further. 2. "Principles of Find Databases Selection" document ERC discussed the Find Databases selection document, which was drafted by an IRPC Find Databases weeding group chaired by Nan Hyland. ERC proposed some revisions to the document, which Nan agreed to make. Nan will email the revised document to the group. Once ERC signs off on the document, they will forward it to CDExec for further review. ERC meets the second and fourth Mondays of the month as needed to address issues related to CUL access to networked electronic resources. Meeting notes by Martin Kurth. | |
