Electronic Resources Committee Minutes Attending: Nan Hyland, Bill Kara, Marty Kurth [David Block, Steve Rockey, Scott Wicks, and Ed Weissman participated in the discussion of Item 1 via email following the meeting.] 1. Directory of Open Access Journals Title-level metadata for the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) aggregator is now available from SerialsSolutions. The SerialsSolutions interface allows us to make title-by-title selections for the metadata we want to receive. We agreed that we would want to receive SerialsSolutions metadata only for selected DOAJ titles because DOAJ content overlaps with other aggregators such as BioMed Central, AMS, AIP, and IEEE. Preselecting the DOAJ metadata from SerialsSolutions will allow us to generate abbreviated-level records from the metadata and load the records into the catalog without further review and manipulation. Bill offered Mann Tech Services student time to search the DOAJ title list and identify the titles unique to DOAJ. Once the Mann students have completed the searching, CTS Acquisitions staff will activate the unique titles in SerialsSolutions. 2. Userid/password access to Scanning The publisher of the electronic journal Scanning no longer offers IP access to it. The Scanning interface now requires users to enter a userid and password when they want to access the full text for an article. Because the userid/password authentication is at the article level rather than the site level, we are unable to write a connection script to handle it. We agreed to get back to the selector of the resource with our recommendation that we not provide access to the journal in its current form and that the selector try to negotiate with the publisher for either IP access or site-level authentication. ERC meets the second and fourth Mondays of the month as needed to address issues related to CUL access to networked electronic resources. Meeting notes by Martin Kurth. | |
