Electronic Resources Committee Minutes April 14, 2003
Attending: David Block, Marty Kurth, Steve Rockey
1. Beitrage zur Algebra und Geometrie. Earlier articles in this e-journal have .ps.gz file extensions and are labeled as compressed postscript files, but they are not actually gzipped, so gzip utilities do not work with them, in spite of the .gz extension. To display these files with a PostScript viewer such as GSView, users must download them and rename them with .ps extensions. Downloading is now possible on the CUL public workstations that Desktop Services maintains, but we felt users will still need help working through the problems with the file extensions, so we agreed to create an intermediate screen to walk users through the steps involved.
2. ReferenceLink, NewsBank Full Text Newspapers, and Alt Press Watch. Selectors have expressed interest in title-level access to these recently acquired aggregators. Title-level metadata is available from SerialsSolutions, so we recommended that CTS order metadata from SerialsSolutions and create abbreviated-level records for them.
3. Encyclopaedia Iranica. Desktop Services made quick work of ERC's request to add the special font that this resource requires to the CUL public workstations they maintain.
4. Mintel marketing intelligence. This resource requires users to download and unzip gzipped documents. Desktop Services recently made this possible on the public workstations they maintain.
ERC meets the second and fourth Mondays of the month as needed to address issues related to CUL access to networked electronic resources.
