Electronic Resources Committee Minutes
June 10, 2002

Attending: Phil Davis, Nan Hyland, Marty Kurth, John Saylor, Ed Weissman

1. Academic Universe

We discussed issues surrounding Academic Universe (AU) journal titles. Many AU journals provide only a basic citation and/or incomplete content. Because it is not possible to offer a subset of AU titles in the e-journal title list, we considered whether we should remove AU from the list. Because patrons and staff have been confused regarding CUL holdings for some e-journals because AU's incomplete holdings often obscure complete holdings from other sources, we agreed to bring AU's removal from the list to IRPC for IRPC members to consider. If IRPC is in favor of removing AU from the e-journal list, we will bring the issue to CD Exec for them to consider.

We have more control over offering AU subsets in Voyager than we do in the e-journal list. To address AU titles with incomplete content we will pursue removing titles designated as having "Periodic Coverage" in AU.

2. High-use e-journal titles

We agreed to work with CTS Acquisitions to request that Serials Solutions manually add a selected handful of high-use e-journals to the e-journal title list.

3. Health Reference Center

We noted that Health Reference Center titles still appear in the e-journal list. We will confirm with CTS Acquisitions that we have deselected Health Reference Center from Serials Solutions so that its titles will not appear in the next update of the list.

4. New e-resources

John reported that access to two newly acquired e-resources, Northeast Power Daily and Micropatent, is atypical, so he is working with the Library Systems Office to bring them to CUL users.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 8, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. in 702 Olin.

Meeting notes by Martin Kurth.
