eNERF Instructions

Logging in

The e-NERF is located at http://www.library.cornell.edu/ittsapps/nerf/nerf.php. If you have already logged on to CU Web Auth using Kerberos, you will not need to log in to use the form. If you have not already logged on to CU Web Auth, you will need to do so.

Required information

Once you log in, your name and netid will be entered for you. Please enter the following required information: the name of the resource, its URL, and the name of the publisher or vendor of the resource.  If you are requesting a large package of journals, just provide us with the URL for the index page for the entire package, not a different URL for each journal.

Indicate whether the resource is an e-journal, database, e-book, or other.  If other, give a brief description in the space provided.

If you have contact information for the publisher or vendor, include this as well.

If we need to process this resource right away due to special publisher pricing deals (for example, 20% off if you order by the end of June…) or the resource is required immediately for a class, please let us know by filling out the deadline section.

Acquisitions and licensing information

If Cornell is paying for the resource, record the cost of the resource, the fund(s) from which the resource is being paid for, and whether this is a one time payment or an annual subscription. Use the notes field to tell us if the resource is free, the resource is an electronic journal that is free with print, the resource is a backfile of electronic journals with a one time payment and an annual maintenance fee, or how the cost of the resource is being split up if being paid for from two or more accounts.  As with print resources, if the actual price recorded is substantially different from what is expected, ERSM staff will contact the selector prior to ordering.

Tell us about any negotiations or discussions regarding the resource that you have already had with the publisher. Have you negotiated a special price for Cornell that ERSM will not be able to find anywhere else?

The ERSM staff will identify and complete licensing requirements; however, if you already know specific details about licensing, please supply them.  Such details may include geographic access restrictions (CU-Med included, or not), limits to simultaneous users, whether or not the license is part of a consortial arrangement, and perpetual and archival access guarantees.

Cataloging information

Tell us if we already own the resource in another format. If so, please provide the Voyager ID for the resource and let us know any other information you might have (is the other format microfilm, paper, etc.).  To find the Voyager ID from the OPAC: first bring up the title, and then click on the MARC view.  The Voyager (bib) ID is the 001 field number.  The same number may be found in the shortcut link at the bottom of the OPAC record:

https://catalog.library.cornell.edu/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?BBID=469127&DB=local

If the resource is a database or other electronic resource created at Cornell, but not an electronic journal, indicate whether or not it should be included in the Cornell Registry of Digital Collections. (See http://lts.library.cornell.edu/lts/pp/dam/106digireg.cfm for more information about this registry.)

Database information

All databases and other e-resources will be cataloged in Voyager, but the Database Review Committee (DRC) will review requests for resources (not e-journals) to be included in Find it!, the CUL federated search service.

If you are planning to have this resource added to Find it! please provide us with information about the resource.

Tell us the level at which you want the resource registered in Find it!

1.  Do you want the resource to be in Voyager only, and do not want it in Find it!?

2.  Do you want the resource to be link-only in Find it! ?

3.  Do you want the resource to be federated searchable in Find it! ?

4.  Do you want the resource to be federated searchable and part of the Quick Search in Find it! ? (Quick Search currently includes Lexis Nexis, ProQuest, Ebsco, and Web of Science.)

Suggest one to three Find it! categories in which you would like the resource to appear. (Holding down the CTRL key allows you to select more than one category for a resource.)

Are there keywords or a summary description that you would like to have serve as a basis of the description in the MARC 520 field and the resource description, if the resource is added to Find it! ?  If so, please fill out this section.

Other information

Please provide us with any other information you have about the resource that is not addressed elsewhere on the form. For example, the resource may consist of separate titles (i.e., a package of electronic journals or electronic books); if so, are there MARC record sets available for the titles?

Trial information

Under development.

Form submission

When you are finished filling out the form, click submit NERF. You will then receive an email confirming that your request has been submitted.  The information on the NERF is automatically entered into a tracking system monitored by LTS staff.

Editing an existing NERF entry

Send an e-mail to erlm-l@cornell.edu and we will update the NERF as you indicate.

Keeping track of your own submissions

Log in to the E-Resources Tracking System at http://www.library.cornell.edu/ittsapps/nerf/main_page.php  .  If you have not yet created a user name/password to log in to the tracking system, please send an e-mail to erlm-l@cornell.edu.

To monitor the progress of a title submitted by another selector or ERSM staff person, you may log in to the tracking system to view this item, or you may request that ERSM staff look up information for you regarding a request.  If you are interested in additional training or questions about how to use the tracking system (how to filter results, etc) please contact erlm-l@cornell.edu.
