II. A. 4. Downloading TeX from Math Sci Net Aim: Occasionally TeX files are not available from the publisher; they can sometimes be found on the website, MathSciNet. This document details the procedure for acquiring that data. a. Go to http://www.ams.org/mathscinet/searchjournals. Select the "Journals" tab. In the search field, type in the name for the journal in hand and click on the "search" button. (See below.)
b. The search will pull up more than one listing, usually a "historical" or archived entry and a current one. You should select the current one. In this case several potential titles came up. The correct one is "Ann. of Math. (2) Annals of Mathematics. Second Series [Indexed cover-to-cover]." This is the proper form for the name of a CURRENT publication in a case where there is more than one series. (See below.)
c. The "home" page for the title at MathSciNet will appear. Click on "List Issues for this Journal." (See below)
A list of volumes and issues available through MathSciNet for that title will display. (See below) Select the link to the issue in hand.
d. A list of articles for the issue will appear. In the top left part of the screen you will see a dropdown menu which displays the value, "Reviews (HTML)." Scroll down and select "Citations (BibTeX)." Click in the square to the left of the title whose TeX you wish to download. Click the "Retrieve Marked" button. (Note: if you wish to retrieve the TeX for all of the articles, simply click the "Retrieve All" button at the top of the display.)
e. The window will now display the BibTeX for all of the articles you selected. (See below.) Highlight all of the TeX, press "CTRL + C" to copy, and paste it into a new NotePad document.
Save the NotePad file in the folder for the issue in hand.
Ex: The TeX for Annals of Math vol. 165, no. 1 would be saved as annm165001.txt You are now ready to run a PERL script against this newly created file in order to create a basic XML file for the issue. After you run the PERL, you will go in to the XML and complete it by cutting and pasting the TeX for the abstracts from the TeX files received from the publisher.
