Policy: Food and beverages in work areas
- General policy. Beverages may be consumed in LTS Olin provided they are in non-breakable, spill-proof containers. Please exercise common sense and care to ensure the safety of library materials. Please consume food only in designated areas of LTS Olin or elsewhere in the library where food is permitted.
- Designated areas. On special occasions that are approved by LTS Olin managers and/or supervisors, LTS Olin staff members may consume food in 110 or 107E. Often, these events are LTS-wide celebrations that are held near the large counter at the Acquisitions Services end of 110, but they may occur in other areas designated by the supervisor(s) in that part of the room (e.g., the credenza across from the LTS Olin administrative assistant’s desk).
- Delivery and storage. When you bring food or beverages into LTS Olin from outside, or purchase it in Libe Café or from vending machines in the building, please put it in sacks or closed containers when you carry it through public areas of Olin Library. If you store food in your desk or in other areas in LTS Olin, please protect it at all times from spoilage and spillage.
- Public areas of OKU. OKU public services staff members have the difficult job of enforcing the OKU food and beverage policy that pertains to public spaces of the library. Please inform yourself of the policy for public areas of OKU and make your public services colleagues’ jobs easier by being mindful that you are visible to the public sometimes, and what you do sets an example for students and others who use OKU.
- Cleaning up. Staff who consume beverages at their desks are individually responsible for the cleanliness of their work area. When food is consumed in LTS Olin, the person(s) who bring the food into the room is/are responsible for ensuring the area is clean and neat at the end of the event. After large events, such as LTS Olin-wide parties, please dispose properly of all trash and leftovers in either the second-floor staff lounge trash receptacles or in the trash room near the loading dock in Uris.
- Review. This policy will be evaluated yearly.
