Scope: This procedure outlines the steps that a supervisor should take when a new staff member is hired in LTS Olin.

For Full-time Permanent Staff
- Introduce the new employee to the Director of LTS and the Administrative Support Specialist. At the same time, introduce the new employee to other staff members in LTS Olin as opportunities permit.
- Get the computer ready for the new employee. See LTS Procedure #29.
- Go to the Library Human Resources Web page section on "Checklists for Hiring Supervisors."

Go over the documents suitable for your new employee.
- Send a message to the Administrative Support Specialist with the following information so that the new employee can be entered in the LTS Employee Database:
First Name
Last Name
Supervisor
Net-id
Position number
Work Phone
Home Phone
Home address
Birthdate - At the completion of this task, a message should be sent to a member of the LTS WebTeam to update the LTS Staff Web page.
- Add the new employee's name to the statistics database.
- A day or two after the arrival of the new employee, send a message to LTS-L welcoming the new employee to LTS.
- If the person is comfortable with having his/her picture taken, introduce the person to the LTS Olin photographer so that their picture can be taken and placed on the "New LTS Olin Staff" bulletin board.
For Temporary Staff
- Introduce the new temporary employee to the Director of LTS and the Administrative Support Specialist. At the same time, introduce the new temporary employee to other staff members in LTS Olin as opportunities permit.
- Get the computer ready for the new employee. See LTS Procedure #29.
- Send a message to the Administrative Support Specialist with the temp employee's net-id.
- Add the new employee's name to the statistics database.
- A day or two after the arrival of the new temporary employee, send a message to LTS-L welcoming the new employee to LTS.
- If the temporary employee is comfortable with having his/her picture taken, introduce the person to the LTS Olin photographer so that their picture can be taken and placed on the "New LTS Olin Staff" bulletin board.
For New Student Staff
- A completed Student Employment Application needs to be given to the Administrative Support Specialist so that the student can be hired in the Student Employment System.
- Introduce the new student to the Director of LTS and the Administrative Support Specialist.
- The Supervisor of the new student employee needs to send a message to the Voyager Security Committee to obtain a Voyager Operator ID and password.
- Add the new student employee's name to the statistics database.
- A day or two after the arrival of the new student employee, send a message to LTS-L welcoming the new employee to LTS.
- If the student is comfortable with having his/her picture taken, introduce the student to the LTS Olin photographer so that their picture can be taken and placed on the "New LTS Olin Staff" bulletin board.
