ACQUISITIONS

Acquisitions is the process of acquiring bibliographic materials, access to information for use by Cornell University Library (CUL) patrons, or both. The Library obtains such materials either directly from the publishers or through arrangements made with suppliers from around the world. The Acquisitions staff work closely with subject specialists, publishers, and suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of the titles regardless of type, format, and language.

CATALOGING

Cataloging is the description and organization of library resources for effective discovery and use. Following widely-used standards, CUL cataloging staff modify or create bibliographic records for the library's online catalog. We work with materials in all subject areas, in dozens of languages, and in any format, from printed books and journals to music scores, manuscripts, maps and electronic resources. We work closely with subject specialists and reference colleagues to provide intellectual and physical access to materials in a timely manner.

GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS

Cornell University Library collects depository and non-depository local, state, federal, and international government documents as well as documents from intergovernmental and non-government organizations. Documents at Cornell are integrated both within the collections and within the technical services processes campus-wide. CUL’s online catalog currently provides access to over half a million document titles in print, microform, map, and digital formats. A vast majority of Cornell’s documents are received on depository.
